An EV charger—Electric Vehicle Charger—is the hardware that safely transfers electricity from your home’s electrical panel (or the power grid) to your electric vehicle's battery.

What are the different types of EV Chargers?

There are three main levels of EV charging, categorized by their speed and power source:

Level 1 Charging: This is the most basic option, using a standard 120-volt household outlet. It is the slowest method, often taking a day or more to fully charge a vehicle, making it best for occasional use or drivers with very short daily commutes.

Level 2 Charging: This is the standard for home and workplace charging. It utilizes a 240-volt dedicated circuit—similar to what a clothes dryer uses—and can fully charge most electric vehicles in about 4 to 8 hours. It is the most practical choice for daily drivers who need reliable, fast turnaround.

DC Fast Charging (Level 3): These are high-powered, commercial-grade stations found along highways and in public areas. They bypass the vehicle’s onboard converter to deliver power directly to the battery, capable of charging most EVs to 80% in 20 to 60 minutes. Due to their extreme power requirements, they are not suitable for residential installation.
